Platte County Park System Master Plan Update Survey 
Let your voice be heard today!

  The Platte County Commission would like your input to help evaluate the draft PRINCIPLES, GOALS AND ACTION STRATEGIES that have been developed for the future of the park program.  This new vision for our award winning park system has been developed with significant citizen input over the past 12 months.  Now we need your help in finalizing the report, and to make sure we are on the right track.  Please take five minutes and complete the survey, and let your voice be heard for parks! 
 
1. Our foundational PRINCPLES for the updated parks plan are to focus on protecting our natural resources, providing health and wellness opportunities, and to create safe recreation places for our kids.  How much do you agree with these as the foundation for the parks plan?

2.Thinking about protecting Open Space in Platte County, the new plan calls for protecting a minimum of an additional 500 acres of land for conservation and recreation over the next twenty years? Do you agree this is a reasonable target for new land acquisition?

3. Thinking about protecting clean water in Platte County, the new plan calls for accomplishing this goal by acquiring buffer zones around streams and rivers and continuing the Stormwater program.  How much do you agree with these initiatives being a priority in the new plan?

4. Thinking about health and wellness initiatives, the plan calls for a quadrupling of miles of  walking and bicycling trails from 15 now to 60 miles in the next twenty years.  Do you agree this is a reasonable target for new trail development in Platte County?

5. Expanding and enhancing our community parks is a major priority of the new plan, to promote a diverse balance of recreational opportunities in the County.  Examples of new or enhanced amenities we would develop at our parks include more walking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, fishing areas, dog parks, and un-programmed open spaces.  How much are you in agreement that these initiatives should be a high priority?

6. Continuing the focus on health and wellness, this plan calls for the expansion of indoor recreational opportunities at the Platte County Community Centers.  Approximately 20% of Platte County residents are members and 40% of residents report using them at least once in the past year.  Do you agree these indoor facilities should be expanded and enhanced?

7. Focusing now on the third major foundational principle of the plan, providing safe places for our children, do you agree new facilities and programs should be developed for youth?  Examples of new facilities would include soccer fields and interactive playgrounds.  New programs could include more organized lifetime sports programs and nature, music, arts, and cultural heritage programs.  How much are you in agreement that these initiatives should be a high priority?

8. How important do you think it is for Platte County to work in partnership with the State of Missouri, cities and non-profits to provide parks and recreation facilities and program services?

10.   Continuing successful implementation of the parks plan, including all of the priorities discussed above, will take the commitment of our resources.  The current parks half-cent sales tax will expire next year. How supportive are you of renewing this tax for up to twenty years to pay for maintenance and improvements to the park system?
